Dr. Ben Alex Baby

Dr Ben Alex Baby is Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in Mechanical Engineering and MSc Engineering Management, at the University of Greater Manchester – RAK Academic Centre, United Arab Emirates. He is a Mechanical Engineer, academic, and energy systems researcher specialising in hydrogen infrastructure, with expertise in hydrogen transportation and distribution, gas network simulation, digital twins, thermo-fluid systems, and sustainable energy infrastructure.

He completed his PhD in Energy at the University of Palermo, Italy, where his doctoral research investigated the feasibility of hydrogen blending in existing natural gas distribution systems through simulation-based and techno-economic analysis. His research career has included roles at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-ITAE), Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany, and AMG Energia S.p.A., Palermo, Italy, supported by a doctoral scholarship worth over €46,000 and a postdoctoral fellowship worth over €19,000.

Alongside his research profile, he has built six years of higher education teaching experience across undergraduate and postgraduate mechanical engineering, delivering modules in core engineering subjects, supervising final-year projects, leading assessment and quality assurance activities, supporting student progression and pastoral guidance, and contributing to course management, internships, and industry-linked academic development. He is a Fellow of Advance HE and an Associate Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (AMIMechE).
